Hybrid Human Animal Cloning

Recently the U.K. has approved Hybrid Human Animal Cloning. It is a new type of experiment whereby human cells are mixed with animal cells either by egg or sperm. The intended purpose of this research is to study the development of diseases and how they may be prevented. Currently research is in its infancy, and has generally failed, the scientist involved claim to be doing this to a limited degree, and destroy the product at an early stage. While I am sure their intentions are laudable, the potential for horror is obvious. The scientist and U.K. government claim to keep everything under controlled circumstances. How long before an accident or out of control situation occurs (consider the gypsy moth), or some bacterial or viral source of destruction is released, or the medical break through have unintended consequences in humans, (as we often see with many modern medicines). Worse yet, is the ultimate development of some type of creature neither human nor animal. While the proponents of such research will claim such concerns are far fetched, certainly they cannot anticipate where they will lead due to the next generation.

A bill has recently been introduced in the U.S. Senate, Human-Animal Hybrid Prohibition Act of 2007 S2358IS, to ban such research in the United States. Since its introduction President Bush voiced his support for the bill in his State of the Union address. While there has been little discussion of the bill either for or against it, eventually the forces of secular humanism will live up in support of it, just as they did with embryonic stem cell research, and again will waive the banner of curing disease as the justification for the pursuit of further research. We can expect that they will be loud, condescending, and critical of people that oppose it. We may also expect that this research will gain momentum through out Europe, and create external pressure in the United States to approve it, as the research continues.

This may suggest the events and creatures described in the book of Revelations are all too real. However, we are not called to be spectators in this earth. We need to stand against these efforts and fight for human dignity. I will keep you advised in the progress of this litigation.

The Inauguration

The inauguration of Barack Obama brings Americans much to celebrate with the first African-American President. All Americans should be proud of this and look forward to improved racial relations, of this there is no doubt. What concerns many Christians is what impact President Obama will have on the moral climate, and whether his policies will be Church-friendly or pro-Secularist. Some feel that the culture wars hang in the balance with this administration, and are apprehensive about the future.
Surely these concerns are valid, however 2nd Chron 7:14 still applies. However, before we can win the culture, we first need to win the Church. A recent survey conducted by the Barna group of people who identify themselves as Christians, showed some troubling results: 50% of the people surveyed said that Satan doesn’t exist, and 1/3 believe that Jesus sinned while on Earth. 40% said that they do not have a responsibility to share their faith with others, and 25% “dismiss the idea that the Bible is accurate in all of the principles that it teaches.”
Barna noted there are millions of people who describe themselves as Christian and believe that Jesus sinned, or those who say they will experience eternal salvation because they confessed their sins and accepted Christ as their savior, “but also believe that a person can do enough good works to earn eternal salvation.” This is another troubling issue.
For the study, “born-again Christians” were defined as people who said they had made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ that was still important in their life today and who also indicated that they believed that when they die they will go to heaven because they had confessed their sins and had accepted Jesus Christ as their savior.
Ironically, 74% of adults agreed that their religious faith was increasingly more important to them as an objective and reliable moral compass. Even 40% of non-Christians agreed with the increasing influence of their beliefs. However, 71% of all adults indicated that they were more likely to develop their own set of beliefs rather than accept the teachings of a particular church. The result “underscored that fact that people no longer look to denominations or churches to offer a slate of theological views that the individual adopts in its entirety” the report said.

It’s one thing for our society to pick and choose its values, however, it’s an alarming trend for Christians to adopt this perspective. Accordingly, we need a strong effort among Bible-believing churches to emphasize the need to study the scriptures and the reliability of the Bible. A significant outspoken effort must be made to counter this trend, or the Church will surely lose its relevance. There will be issues both culturally and politically that will have to be contended with, and Christians will need to be outspoken on them. But for now, the Church and its reliance on scripture is where attention must be given. When the Church is strong, the culture will follow.

Very truly yours,

Migliore sponsors youth talk show

Going strong since January, the folks at WNYG have been in full swing with their latest project,  Next Generation, thanks to Rudy Migliore. Next Generation is a Christian talk show hosted by our very own young people.

Nothing more than high school seniors outside the studio,  inside Rudy Migliore Jr., Rob Harrison, and Jacob Mathai become vibrant radio personalities. None having any previous broadcast experience, they took to the show right away. They cover a broad range of subjects, from in depth sports analyses, to case studies in what exactly they believe and why. The show has shown great promise, as one of the only youth hosted shows on mainstream radio. It has had a steady audience, never backing down on even the tough issues, such as the Elliot Spitzer scandal.

The show has been signed for another six week run over the summer, thanks to Rudy Migliore's continued support. They can be heard on Saturday afternoons on 1440 AM. One of the show's hosts, Rob Harrison commented “None of this would have been possible with out Mr. Migliore's help. The show has gone such great places, and we know it will continue to break boundaries.” With the right support, our young people can truly show that they have what it takes.

Long Island 9/11 Memorial Update

The Long Island 9/11 Memorial is an organization committed to honoring and remembering the 456 Long Islanders that perished in the attacks on 9/11. They hold an annual memorial service to honor those Long Islanders. It includes a color guard, choir, and reading of the names. Their long terms plans encompass building a memorial which will include a Resource Learning Center.

The Long Island 9/11 Memorial is hoped to be a welcoming site for reflection and contemplation for all those that visit. The Resource Learning Center will provide an educational resource for the public, as well as address the needs of the victims and rescue workers. Besides New York City, Long Island was the most deeply effected region of the September 11th attacks. The site will, as well as being a site of remembrance, preserve the stories of heroism and sacrifice that occurred as a result of the attacks.

The memorial will include walkways, gardens, and personal areas set apart for contemplation, as well as private gardens for police and fire rescue personnel. The center will be a twelve foot monolith of steel recovered from the debris of the at Ground Zero. Adjacent to the memorial will be the Resource Learning Center. It will feature both temporary and permanent exhibits, as well as a library of print and audio-visual media, meeting rooms, and classrooms. The memorial will keep the memory of 9/11 alive for generations to come.

Rudolph Migliore serves as general council to the Long Island 9/11 memorial, as well as being involved in the committee since its inception. The memorial has received great support from the community, as well as the local press. Many local business and political leaders have already donated to the project.
